Your Own Presentation Exercise

Survivor Research 101

For this exercise, open up a presentation you have given publicly or on a webinar, training, or even something you’ve been working on and haven’t presented yet. Using the questions below, critically analyze the content you’re presenting so make sure your presentations are based on existing peer-reviewed/empirical/scholarly research. (P.S. You can copy and paste the table below into a word doc, or just jot down your answers)

Start with the claims you are making throughout the presentation

–Are these claims based on Exposure, Education, or Experience? Fill in the table on the next page to start critically analyzing your work. Repeat with the table as much as you need.

Reminder of the definitions:

EXPOSURE: evidence comes from having worked with/alongside survivors or victims

EDUCATION: formal training in a related area, specific coursework on trafficking or exploitation, or developing one’s own level of education by reading peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic.

EXPERIENCE: lived experience as a survivor of exploitation or sexual violence
