Jessica is making a difference

Jessica Danley, RN

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

How did you first learn about and begin working with The Avery Center?

I first learned about The Avery Center (then Free Our Girls) in 2016 when I heard Megan Lundstrom give a lecture on Human Trafficking for Health Professionals at North Colorado Medical Center. She inspired me to go through the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) training and pay more attention to what is happening in our community. I began working with the organization in April 2020.

What do you think sets The Avery Center apart from other organizations in this sector?

The founders. Megan is such a down to earth, positive influence and she instantly makes you feel comfortable and at ease. She puts forth a genuine vibe of care and concern that builds rapport with staff, clients and the community.

What's your favorite part/the most fulfilling part of your role?

I am amazed at the tenacity of every person involved in this organization. Their passion is insurmountable! I am in awe of the growth The Avery Center has done over the last year and the growth it will continue to do....for Colorado, for our country and around the world.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not at The Avery Center?

I love being outdoors and exploring our amazing state! I enjoy hiking with my dog Roxy, paddleboarding and yoga.

Who is someone you admire, and why?

Finding one person is difficult! The past year has shone the light on so many people's strength, resilience and courage. Whether it be inclusivity, equality, growth or sheer determination--the amount of change in our world has brought forth strength and courage in the people of our country. I have seen how it has changed health care, the political climate and the human spirit.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?

I completed my 200 RYT in December 2020--I hope to take further training in trauma informed yoga and help bring healing to patients, survivors and caregivers.

What advice would you give someone who wants to join the Avery team of superstars?

Do it! Get involved! No matter the number of hours or the number of dollars you have to give--every little bit helps and there are so many facets in which to give back.
